Job description
Role overview
This position supports front-of-house operations at the University Cultural Centre (UCC) within the National University of Singapore. As a casual usher, you will help manage audience flow, maintain venue order, and support event safety and service standards.
Key duties
- Welcome guests, guide them to the right areas, and help them take their seats.
- Verify tickets or other entry credentials, and check auditorium spaces before and after events.
- Handle simple ad hoc tasks related to event operations.
- Apply venue rules consistently and manage issues in a calm, professional way.
- Respond to feedback quickly and appropriately.
- Watch for unsafe behaviour or conditions and take action to protect patrons.
Work conditions
The role may involve working in environments with low lighting, loud music, and steep stairs. You should also be comfortable standing for the duration of an event, typically around 3 to 4 hours, and be able to climb stairs as needed.
Requirements
- Strong spoken English communication skills are required.
- You should be able to cope well in a busy, fast-moving setting.
- Physical stamina is important, including the ability to stand and climb stairs during events.
- A customer-focused mindset, patience, teamwork, and initiative are important for success in this role.
