Job Overview
Under the guidance of the Housekeeping Supervisor and Lead Hand, the Housekeeper/Cleaner is responsible for maintaining cleanliness throughout all front and back areas of the casino. This role is pivotal in upholding the casino's positive reputation among guests and staff. Work must align with departmental policies, procedures, and comply with Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission regulations. Candidates must be comfortable working in environments where smoking occurs.
Work Schedule
This position requires availability for shift work including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The scheduled shift is from 10:30 pm to 7:00 am.
Key Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Housekeeping Supervisor and Lead Hand.
- Maintain highest levels of integrity and customer service toward guests, colleagues, and casino staff.
- Communicate via two-way radio with casino personnel.
- Carry out cleaning tasks such as washrooms sanitation, carpet shampooing, garbage disposal, vacuuming, floor waxing and stripping, ashtray cleaning, dusting, wiping gaming machines, and biohazard cleanup following Universal Precaution Protocols.
- Complete, sign off, and submit shift cleaning duties.
- Report any equipment or safety device malfunctions to supervisors.
- Utilize required equipment and personal protective gear in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act and internal safety policies.
- Adhere strictly to WHMIS guidelines.
- Participate in required training sessions.
- Accept additional tasks as designated by the department based on casino needs.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Prior cleaning experience considered an advantage.
Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with operating floor cleaning machinery and relevant equipment.
- Experience with WHMIS and biohazard cleaning preferred.
- Capable of standing for extended periods and performing physically demanding tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift weights up to approximately 55 lbs and perform repetitive motions.
- Effective as a team member and independently, with strong attention to detail.
- Capacity to mentor and instruct new employees.
- Comfort working in a designated smoking area.
