Case Management Specialist I - Department of Juvenile Services, Maryland

Position Overview

The Department of Juvenile Services seeks a Case Management Specialist I to join the Pre-Adjudication and Reform Unit in Cambridge, Maryland. This entry-level role involves evaluating referrals from law enforcement and other sources to make appropriate intake decisions guided by departmental policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess risk posed by juvenile behavior to public safety and supervise accordingly to enhance community protection.
• Enforce accountability by applying sanctions and incentives to encourage positive behavior, oversee victim reparation activities including restitution and community service, facilitate referrals to community services, and authorize legal petitions when necessary.
• Identify treatment and rehabilitation needs of supervised youth and coordinate services that support their successful transition into adulthood.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Social or Behavioral Sciences, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Human Relations, Psychology, Child and Adolescent Studies, or Social Work. No prior experience is required; however, an Associate degree with two years of direct service experience with children or equivalent military service in related social service roles may substitute.

Appointment requires certification by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission. Some positions require a valid Maryland driver’s license and possibly certification as a Medication Technician depending on assignment at Youth Centers.

Additional prerequisites include U.S. citizenship or resident alien status, minimum age of 21 years, detailed background checks, interviews, and medical examinations as per Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulations. Candidates are subject to drug testing.
