Job description

Overview

Transport for NSW is seeking a skilled carpenter to join their Projects team based in South Tamworth, NSW. This permanent full-time position focuses on contributing to the maintenance and construction of bridge structures, directly impacting local communities across the region. The role demands a high level of quality, teamwork, and autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute carpentry trade tasks including maintenance and building of bridge structures regionally.
  • Engage in steel element replacements, falsework and formwork construction, bearing and joint replacements, as well as timber bridge maintenance and construction activities daily.
  • Operate independently with minimal supervision, applying quick problem-solving skills on site.
  • Collaborate closely with team leaders and works supervisors to manage daily operations and address any arising issues.
  • Travel extensively throughout the area and camp away from home Monday to Friday, committing up to 90% of the year to travel.
  • Work a 9-day fortnight roster pattern.

Candidate Profile

  • Must be a qualified carpenter with a preference for those enjoying teamwork in a challenging and rewarding environment.
  • At least 12 months of experience in bridge maintenance/construction or civil construction settings is required.
  • Possess practical and quick learning abilities, excellent communication skills, and enjoy physically active outdoor work involving hand tools within a team context.
  • Must have valid White Card and driver's license.
  • Capability to work safely at heights is essential.
  • Required carpentry qualifications include Carpenter and Joiner, Construction Carpenter, Bridge and Wharf Carpenter, Civil Engineering Construction Carpenter, or their equivalents.
  • Candidates must reside within 100 km of the South Tamworth depot in line with workplace health, safety, and fatigue management policies.
