Job description

Job Overview

The Government of Yukon seeks to hire one permanent full-time Carpenter working 80 hours biweekly at the Department of Highways and Public Works. This position offers an opportunity to contribute positively to Yukon communities by maintaining safe and functional government facilities through expert carpentry and maintenance services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct various carpentry and maintenance duties including repairs, renovations, and scheduled preventative inspections at facilities in Whitehorse and surrounding areas.
  • Ensure adherence to established standards to maintain operational safety and functionality of government properties.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Red Seal journeyperson carpenter’s certificate (evidence to be provided upon request).
  • Proven experience in carpentry trade focused on repairing, renovating, and maintaining buildings.
  • Knowledge and practice of safety procedures in a workplace environment.
  • Possession of a class 5 driver's license or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift weights up to 22 kg and readiness to travel throughout Yukon Territory.
  • Security clearance including a Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory.

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • Experience in performing preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Strong client service orientation.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft applications such as Word and Outlook.
