Carbon Project Manager - West Africa

About the Role

BURN is hiring a Carbon Project Manager for its West Africa operations. The role focuses on planning, coordinating, and delivering a range of baseline and monitoring surveys, stakeholder consultations, and other carbon-project activities needed to develop and implement the company’s carbon-financed improved cook stove (ICS) initiatives. The work must be completed on schedule, within scope, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and manage a detailed project Gantt chart so that all tasks are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards, from project inception through carbon credit issuance.
• Prepare and organize all supporting documents required at each carbon process stage and milestone for the Carbon Technical Officer and Carbon Technical Manager.
• Create full project budgets and produce expense reports against approved budgets.
• Support quality assurance across the project lifecycle, from design to implementation.
• Assist with project location selection by factoring in quality and risk through PDG activities and in collaboration with the MRV Coordinator.
• Help oversee distribution quality audits carried out through IPV activities, working with the MRV Coordinator to confirm compliance with approved standards and protocols.
• Monitor adherence to internal controls, programme requirements, and relevant verification standards.
• Identify quality and compliance risks early, escalate them when needed, and help drive mitigation measures, including expansion projects outside the current Business Development team’s scope.
• Plan, coordinate, lead, and report on local stakeholder meetings in line with Carbon Technical Team guidance, including budgeting, scheduling, coordinating local support teams, preparing participant lists, translating and distributing invitations through channels such as newspapers, radio, email, phone, and word of mouth, hosting meetings, and maintaining supporting documentation.
• Plan, coordinate, lead, and report on baseline surveys and baseline kitchen performance tests in line with Carbon Technical Team guidance, including field coordination, enumerator recruitment and training, logistics planning, presence on site, and management of all field data collection activities.
• Plan, coordinate, lead, and report on annual monitoring surveys, project kitchen performance tests, leakage surveys, and water boiling tests in line with Carbon Technical Team guidance, including timeline planning, field survey management, recruitment and training of experienced enumerators or research consultants, logistics support, field presence, risk assessment, and timely issue resolution.
• Maintain strong working relationships with BURN country representatives to support their understanding of carbon requirements and ensure timely delivery.
• Arrange all logistics for carbon audits during validation and verification, including booking households for site visits, accompanying auditors during interviews, confirming households meet the Carbon Technical Team’s standards, and coordinating transport and accommodation for household visits.
• Share progress, results, goals, and targets with the Carbon Project Implementation Manager on the agreed reporting schedule.
• Take on additional one-off carbon-related assignments that fall outside the normal job scope.

Skills and Experience

• A solid understanding of, or demonstrated interest in, carbon and clean cooking.
• Background or exposure to business, sales, expansion, marketing, or business development.
