In this role, you will support autonomous vehicles in real time as an Emergency Response Specialist. The job is centered on assisting AVs through complex driving situations, helping them make safe and efficient decisions, and responding quickly when road conditions change. This is a morning-shift, onsite position based in Manchester.

What the Job Involves

  • Provide live guidance to autonomous vehicles when they encounter difficult driving conditions.
  • Help determine the safest and most efficient route when streets are blocked, lanes are restricted, or access points are tight.
  • Monitor vehicle behaviour closely and step in whenever safety could be compromised.
  • Work alongside AV systems to make route decisions that account for traffic and road closures.
  • Communicate effectively with the autonomous vehicle platform to ensure smooth coordination and prompt responses.
  • React quickly to changing road situations and resolve unexpected issues on the spot.
  • Review past performance patterns to support ongoing improvements in autonomous driving operations.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and certification requirements.

Required Background

  • Applicants must clear a background check as well as a drug and alcohol screening.
  • A full valid UK driving licence is required.
  • Candidates should have at least 3 years of driving experience and a clean driving record.
  • Prior experience in 999/emergency telecommunications, or a similar field, is preferred, with at least 1 year of exposure.
  • Experience in customer service, de-escalation, communication, and interpersonal work is expected, with 2 years mentioned as the benchmark.
  • You should be comfortable working in a highly dynamic, fast-moving setting.
  • The role calls for strong attention to safety, good judgment, and the ability to stay focused for long periods while seated.
  • Flexibility to work a 24/7 schedule, including holidays, is necessary.
  • Applicants should be able to adapt to new tools and processes, multitask under pressure, and learn from mistakes.
  • Maintaining relevant safety compliance certifications is part of the role.
