Job description

Role overview

We are seeking a meticulous CAD/CAFM Technician to support the Estates & Facilities function. The position focuses on keeping estate records accurate, improving operational efficiency, and helping inform compliance and long-term planning across several sites.

In this role, you will update and review CAD drawings, maintain CAFM data, and help advance digital estate management using tools such as 3D scanning. The work spans both clinical and non-clinical settings.

Key duties

  • Visit sites to verify information and refresh CAD drawings for all facilities.
  • Keep AutoCAD floor plans and site plans current and accurate.
  • Support the CAFM platform and safeguard the quality of its data.
  • Collect 3D scans and digital images and incorporate them into estate systems.
  • Build and maintain asset information to aid maintenance scheduling and compliance.
  • Prepare reports covering space use, maintenance backlog, and statutory compliance.
  • Work closely with Estates, Facilities, and Capital Projects colleagues.
  • Offer technical guidance and informal training on CAFM tools and processes.
  • Help ensure adherence to relevant standards such as Health & Safety, Asbestos controls, and PPM records.
  • Interpret complex information and present findings that support both day-to-day and strategic decisions.

About the organisation

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is a large NHS organisation serving communities in Gwent. It provides care across hospitals, GP practices, community services, and mental health services, with research, education, and innovation playing an important role in its approach.

The organisation’s long-term direction is shaped by the Gwent Strategy 2025–2035, with a focus on prevention, reducing inequalities, and working with partners to improve health and wellbeing. It aims to offer an inclusive, respectful environment where staff can learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully.

Requirements and experience

  • A degree-level qualification, or equivalent knowledge and experience, in Architectural Technology, Building Studies, or a related area.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and hands-on CAFM experience.
  • Understanding of CAFM platforms and asset management principles.
  • Experience using or adapting software such as MiCAD and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to handle large datasets with a high level of accuracy.
  • Confidence in producing measured surveys.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Awareness of and commitment to the health board’s GDPR policy when using scanning equipment.
  • Desirable: experience in building services, facilities management, construction, healthcare estates, 3D scanning, data analysis, reporting, and NHS compliance standards.

Skills

You should bring excellent written and verbal communication, strong IT capability across multiple platforms, advanced data handling, good analytical judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. The role also requires professional interpersonal skills, the ability to travel between sites, and self-motivation within set guidelines.

Additional information

Applications are welcomed from people with protected characteristics, including disabled and neurodiverse candidates and members of the Armed Forces Community. Welsh-language applications are encouraged and will be treated on an equal basis with English-language applications.

If you need reasonable adjustments or support during recruitment, you are encouraged to contact the relevant hiring manager. You do not have to share any personal or medical details; simply explain what would help you take part fully. If you need documents in a different format or larger print, you may contact the recruitment team on 01495 745805 option 3 or email abb.vacancyrequests@wales.nhs.uk.

If you are shortlisted, communication will be sent to the email address used in your application, so regular email checks are important. If successful at interview, you will receive a conditional offer and information pack by email.

The vacancy may close early, and it can also be withdrawn if filled through internal redeployment. Flexible working is supported where possible. All Health Board sites are smoke-free by law, and smoking is not allowed anywhere on those premises, including for staff, contractors, patients, and visitors.

The Band 3 salary scale has been adjusted under the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026, backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Eligibility

Applications are open to English and Welsh speakers alike. Welsh language ability is desirable, but not required, and applicants who can work across the Health Board’s sites independently will be well suited to the role.

Organisation values

The Health Board promotes kindness, integrity, and respect, and aims to provide a supportive workplace with learning and development opportunities alongside NHS benefits.
