Role Overview
Ascentec Engineering is looking for a CAD Designer II who is ready to take on broader design responsibility and work with greater independence. This position builds on core CAD experience and adds ownership of design tasks, direct customer communication, and practical technical troubleshooting. It is a strong fit for someone with solid mechanical aptitude and developing 3D design skills who wants to grow in tooling and fixture design.
Location and Work Arrangement
This role is based at the company’s Tualatin headquarters and must be performed onsite. It is not available as remote or hybrid work. Please note that visa sponsorship, including transfer of sponsorship, is not offered for this position. Candidates should also be prepared for an AutoCAD proficiency test during the interview process.
Key Responsibilities
- Create precise drawings and models for fixtures ranging from simple to moderately complex.
- Review engineering notes and coordinate clearly with internal teams.
- Support production by helping resolve small design-related issues.
- Take part in internal design review meetings.
- Help train CAD Interns and Designer I team members.
- Keep CAD libraries current and aligned with design standards.
- Organize, maintain, and update design files using established workflows.
- Communicate with customers about drawing approvals, clarifications, and straightforward design questions.
- Handle additional duties assigned by leadership.
Qualifications and Technical Skills
Applicants should have strong AutoCAD skills and basic to developing experience in SolidWorks, including the ability to create simple parts and basic assemblies. The role also requires comfort designing simple to moderately complex multi-part assemblies, understanding PCB data, and performing basic manufacturability and print-quality checks. Strong computer skills and file management ability are also important. Experience should be about 1 to 3 years in CAD or mechanical design, or an equivalent educational background.

Working Conditions
The position may involve sitting for long stretches during desk work and meetings. There may also be occasional movement to the production area, where noise levels can range from low to moderate. The schedule may vary, so flexibility with working hours and shifts is required. Employees must be able to carry out the essential duties of the role, and reasonable accommodations may be provided when needed, unless doing so would create undue hardship. The employer may also reassign or add duties as business needs change.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay ranges from $19 to $28 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; a 401(k) plan with company match up to 4%; a tiered quarterly bonus program; short-term and long-term disability coverage; tuition assistance or reimbursement; life insurance; paid time off and paid holidays; and an employee assistance program.
