Job description

Overview

Ascentec Engineering is looking for a CAD Designer I to join its design team. This entry-level full-time role is intended as the starting point in a design career path. It is suited to someone who is driven, dependable, detail-focused, and interested in turning concepts into manufacturable designs. The company is especially interested in candidates with solid mechanical aptitude, strong visual thinking, and a willingness to build skills in fixture and tooling design for the electronics assembly sector.

This job is based at the company’s Tualatin headquarters and must be performed on site; it is not available as remote or hybrid work. Visa sponsorship, including transfers of sponsorship, is not offered. Candidates should also be prepared for an AutoCAD proficiency test during the interview process.

Key responsibilities

  • Create precise 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Assist, under supervision, with basic fixture and tooling design work.
  • Review engineering notes with support from senior team members and apply them correctly.
  • Issue drawings for customer review and approval.
  • Update and maintain CAD block libraries and follow established design standards.
  • Provide support to Production for simple drawing and documentation questions.
  • Use the company’s file-management process to organize and revise design information.
  • Take on additional tasks assigned by leadership.

Qualifications and technical knowledge

Applicants should have drafting-related knowledge, hands-on experience with AutoCAD, and a general mechanical understanding. The role also calls for the ability to mentally convert simple ideas from 2D into 3D form. Familiarity with PCB data is preferred, though not mandatory. Strong computer skills and comfort working with file systems are important. The company is also looking for someone who is open to learning ASME print-reading practices and GD&T basics.

Personal attributes

The ideal candidate is self-driven, quality-minded, positive, and collaborative. Professional conduct, honesty, reliability, flexibility, and clear verbal and written communication are all important in this fast-paced environment.

Working conditions

This position may involve sitting for extended periods during desk work and meetings. At times, the employee may need to walk into the Production area, where the noise level can range from low to moderate. The schedule may vary, and flexibility with hours and work timing is required. The employer states that the employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the role, and reasonable accommodations will be provided when appropriate, unless doing so would create undue hardship. The company also reserves the right to revise duties or assign additional responsibilities as needed.

Compensation and benefits

The pay range is $18 to $24 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; a 401(k) plan with company match of up to 4%; a tiered quarterly bonus program; short-term and long-term disability coverage; tuition assistance or reimbursement; life insurance; paid time off and paid holidays; and an employee assistance program.

Additional requirements

Before starting work, the selected candidate must pass a drug screening and a criminal background check.

ITAR and employment eligibility

Because of U.S. Government export-control rules, including ITAR, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, a protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or otherwise eligible to obtain the required authorization from the U.S. Department of State.
