Job description
About the Role
We are looking for a proficient CAD Designer to join a dynamic civil engineering and surveying team. This role involves creating precise, production-ready drawings for land development, site design, and surveying projects. You'll collaborate closely with licensed engineers and surveyors to convert field information, design intentions, and engineering calculations into thorough, permit-ready plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
Ideal candidates will have strong attention to detail, advanced Civil 3D skills, and the ability to handle multiple drawings simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Why Join Us
This position offers genuine ownership of your work rather than anonymous drafting tasks in large queues. You'll witness your plans evolve from initial concepts to permitted projects through direct collaboration across disciplines. The team operates in a lean structure with varied project types, rewarding strong performance through project-based incentives. This role is ideal for CAD Designers aiming for growth, meaningful contributions, and clear recognition compared to large corporate settings.
Responsibilities
- Develop civil engineering plan sets including grading, drainage, utilities, and site layouts using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Integrate survey field data into base drawings and existing conditions plans.
- Create plats, easements, legal descriptions, and survey exhibits.
- Maintain CAD standards, templates, layering schemes, and LISP routines.
- Collaborate with engineers and surveyors to clarify design details and ensure drawing precision.
- Prepare permit submission packages and manage municipal feedback responses.
- Handle drawing revisions and organize project file structures efficiently.
- Support quantity calculations and prepare construction details.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience producing drawings with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- History of producing civil site plan sets from conceptual phases through permit-ready stages.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, surveys, and legal descriptions accurately.
- Strong focus on detail and diligence to maintain accuracy.
- Competency managing several active drawings concurrently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with land development, subdivisions, or site design projects.
- Knowledge of AutoLISP routines and workflow automation tools.
- Exposure to survey data handling, including point files, surfaces, and boundary drafting.
- Familiarity with municipal submission protocols and permitting procedures.
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related disciplines.
Ideal Candidate Traits
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership over assigned drawings.
- Thrives in a small, efficient team setting.
- Communicates proactively regarding issues.
- Exhibits strong organizational skills and effectively prioritizes deadlines.
- Seeks early clarification to minimize rework.
- Open to constructive feedback and committed to ongoing improvement.
- Reliable and consistently prepared for daily tasks.
Standout Experience
- Advanced Civil 3D expertise including surfaces, corridors, pipe networks, and sheet set management.
- Experience within small civil or surveying firms with full plan-set production exposure.
- Knowledge of state-specific design standards and drainage regulations.
- Ability to work independently and deliver clean, permit-ready drawings on the first attempt.
Benefits
Health, Dental, Vision insurance plans, 401(k), and Health Savings Account (HSA) options available.
