Role overview

Air New Zealand is seeking a commercially minded Business Development Manager to join its Southeast Asia Sales team in Singapore. The role focuses on expanding the airline’s presence across the region by spotting new commercial opportunities, deepening strategic partnerships, and driving lasting revenue growth.

In this position, you will work closely with the Senior Sales Manager to deliver the sales strategy for Southeast Asia. The work includes strengthening current relationships, opening new business channels, and supporting profitability and market share growth. The company is looking for someone who is naturally inquisitive, action-oriented, and strongly focused on results, with sound commercial judgment and the ability to think strategically.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable questioning existing approaches, identifying opportunities, and collaborating effectively with both internal teams and external partners. A genuine interest in building long-term partnerships that create value for both sides is important.

Key responsibilities

  • Create and implement business development plans that support revenue, profitability, and market share targets across Southeast Asia.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new commercial partnerships and sales opportunities while expanding existing accounts.
  • Oversee important trade and commercial accounts through strong relationship management, negotiation, and performance planning.
  • Review sales results, market movements, and competitor activity to uncover growth opportunities and launch improvement initiatives.
  • Negotiate and manage commercial agreements that generate strong returns while keeping costs under control.
  • Work with internal Commercial and Marketing teams on sales propositions, incentive programmes, and joint marketing campaigns that add incremental revenue.
  • Manage regional distribution channels to improve profitability and lower the cost of sale.
  • Support product training, trade engagement initiatives, and industry events to raise Air New Zealand’s visibility within the travel trade community.
  • Provide guidance, commercial input, and leadership support to Sales team members and General Sales Agent partners to encourage collaboration and strong performance across the region.

Candidate profile

  • Background in business development, sales, or account management, preferably in the airline, travel, or tourism sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow revenue and establish strategic partnerships.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to influence at different levels.
  • Ability to perform well in a fast-moving environment while balancing several priorities.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking, with the capacity to turn insights into practical action.
  • Collaborative working style and comfort working across different cultures.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
  • Willingness to be based in Singapore and travel across Southeast Asia as required.
