Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Business Analyst to join a specialist investment and advisory firm operating within the energy, resources, and industrial sectors. This role is central to active projects supporting the energy transition, encompassing strategy and commercial advisory, transaction assistance, and direct investment activities.
You will be responsible for constructing models, performing market and asset analyses, and contributing to strategic outputs presented to boards, management teams, and investors. The position inherently offers exposure to decarbonisation, emerging energy systems, and energy market dynamics.
This opportunity is ideal for a analytically skilled early-career professional seeking a broad scope rather than a narrow specialization. The organization is compact, senior-led, and staffed with individuals possessing extensive experience in the energy sector and capital markets, providing direct interaction with principals from the beginning, under a flexible hybrid work arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain financial and commercial models to support advisory events and investment prospects.
- Perform market, policy, and asset-level assessments across electricity, gas, renewable energy, and related industrial sectors.
- Assist in commercial and financial due diligence processes for transactions and investments.
- Produce thorough analyses, reports, and presentations tailored for boards, executives, and investors.
- Engage in problem structuring and hypothesis formulation with senior team members.
- Monitor developments in energy markets, regulatory updates, and transition trends pertinent to client projects.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Between 1 and 3 years of experience in strategy consulting, investment banking, corporate finance, energy advisory, or energy market analytics.
- Proficiency in financial modelling and quantitative analysis, with advanced skills in Excel.
- Demonstrated passion for energy markets, decarbonisation, or the broader energy transition.
- Strong proficiency in distilling complex information into clear and client-appropriate deliverables.
- Capability to work autonomously within a small team environment, with significant exposure to senior personnel.
Educational Background
- A robust undergraduate degree in commerce, finance, economics, engineering, or another quantitative discipline.
- Postgraduate or honours qualifications in energy, finance, or economics are advantageous.
