Building Surveyor - Inspection Specialist

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Building Surveyor to become part of our inspections team in a full-time, permanent capacity based in Rolleston. The primary focus of this role involves assessing and inspecting residential building consents across the Selwyn district to ensure all constructions meet legislative standards and promote safe building practices for the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and inspect a variety of building consents.
• Offer expert advice on Building Act regulations to applicants and internal teams.
• Engage and communicate effectively with agents, architects, licensed building practitioners, and other parties to resolve issues and provide clear instructions.
• Collaborate closely with different departments such as planning, property, plumbing, and drainage to ensure a unified customer service approach.
• Maintain professional competency through technical audits and participating in a biannual competency framework.
• Stay updated on legislative amendments and adapt to new systems and procedures.

Candidate Profile

• Possess calmness, honesty, and approachability in professional demeanor.
• Hold relevant Building Consent Authority (BCA) or Territorial Authority (TA) experience for immediate contribution.
• Be attentive to details while maintaining an understanding of broader objectives.
• Exhibit strong problem-solving capabilities.
• Hold a New Zealand Diploma in Building Surveying (Level 6) or equivalent with recognized R2 or R3 competence.
• Comprehend and apply the Building Act, regulations, Building Code, standards, and consent processes effectively.
• Demonstrate ability to make technical decisions promptly using sound judgment, risk analysis, and thorough research.
• Show high digital literacy with experience across various software.
• Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
• Hold a current Class 1 New Zealand driver's license.
