Job description
Role overview
Ralo is hiring its first dedicated brand and social media specialist to shape how the company appears, speaks, and connects with audiences across channels. The mission is to build confidence in Ralo well before customers are actively looking for a mortgage, helping the brand become one people trust, remember, and recommend.
This person will partner closely with the founders, a designer, a videographer, PR partners, and UGC creators. The role combines strategic ownership with hands-on execution: developing messaging, producing content, managing the publishing calendar, and shipping work quickly. The environment is built for someone who thrives in an early-stage setting, can work with limited structure, and knows when to prioritize speed over polish.
What you will own
Brand voice and identity: Shape and safeguard how Ralo looks and sounds across every customer touchpoint, working directly with the founder to define the brand.
Social media: Run the company’s social presence end to end, including short-form video for Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok; concise posts on X; product updates; and educational content that simplifies a complex topic. Ownership includes ideation, scripting, shooting, editing, and publishing, with most content produced in-house and at scale. You will also support and ghostwrite for the founders’ personal accounts to extend the brand’s reach.
Newsletter: Create and manage a newsletter that keeps both prospective and current borrowers engaged throughout a long buying cycle.
Expanded brand responsibilities as the company grows: Lead blog and educational content, including expert interviews when relevant; direct larger video efforts with the videographer; collaborate with PR on announcements and brand storytelling; and source and guide UGC creators.
Role boundaries
In scope: brand voice and identity, social media, newsletter and lifecycle messaging, plus blog, video, PR collaboration, and UGC as the company expands.
Shared work: you will create scrappy assets as needed, while the designer handles higher-polish graphics and the videographer supports larger productions. You will direct both. PR is handled through an agency, with you serving as the narrative lead. The founders will continue to speak on their own accounts, with your support.
Out of scope: paid acquisition and ad account management, product and pricing decisions, sales conversations, the mortgage process itself, and data infrastructure work.
What success in this role requires
At least 4 years of experience in brand or content marketing, preferably in a consumer-focused company, with a portfolio that shows you can build a strong voice from scratch.
Demonstrated ability to grow an audience, whether for a company account or your own, backed by real examples.
A deep understanding of content performance, including hooks, pacing, retention, and the factors that keep viewers engaged.
Excellent writing across multiple formats, such as social threads, long-form posts, emails, and video scripts, along with a strong sense of tone and originality.
Comfort creating your own rough-cut video and image assets using LLMs and generative tools, while knowing when work should be elevated by a designer or videographer.
Ability to make decisions using signals that are difficult to attribute directly, such as branded search, direct and organic traffic, social growth, sentiment, and word of mouth.
Strong prioritization skills, with the discipline to focus on the few channels that matter most instead of trying to do everything at once.
Early-stage operating instincts: managing a calendar, coordinating freelancers, and shipping work without needing a large team in place.
High ownership and a strong sense of urgency to publish quickly, learn from results, and iterate.
Preferred background
Experience in fintech or finance, or a strong ability to turn dry, high-stakes subjects into engaging content.
Hands-on experience with video, editing, or design beyond basic scrappy production.
Existing relationships with press contacts, creators, or UGC talent.
Prior experience as the first or one of the earliest brand hires at a company.
Genuine enthusiasm for Ralo’s mission to make mortgages more affordable.
Work environment and company highlights
This is an in-person position based in Ralo’s New York City office. The company highlights the opportunity to join early, contribute to meaningful equity in a large and growing market, and work alongside a strong team with experience from companies such as Y Combinator, Google, and Goldman Sachs. The environment is intentionally low-bureaucracy, with minimal meetings, high ownership, and a strong focus on execution, learning, and continuous improvement.
No stipend or salary details were provided in the source.
