Job description

Job Overview

This position involves comprehensive engineering responsibilities focused on Body in White (BIW) design for automotive closures and structures. The role demands expertise in CATIA V5 for designing components from initial concept through to production, emphasizing manufacturability, weight optimization, and cost-efficiency without sacrificing quality and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design BIW closure parts utilizing CATIA V5, managing full development life cycle from concept development to production readiness.
  • Perform master section creation and feasibility analyses for BIW components.
  • Conduct door articulation and opening studies, including door hinge axis layout and packaging for door components.
  • Possess basic knowledge of door and closures assembly kinematics to ensure operational integrity.
  • Collaborate closely with styling teams to translate design concepts into production-feasible parts.
  • Understand sheet metal materials, manufacturing processes, assembly, and crashworthiness criteria.
  • Apply principles of GD&T, sheet metal tolerances, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA) within design tasks.
  • Optimize designs to reduce weight and cost, with a focus on manufacturing efficiencies while maintaining performance.
  • Incorporate CAE feedback to refine and provide design solutions.
  • Interface with supplier teams for validation and approval of designs.
  • Engage in benchmarking and packaging studies to identify and implement optimal design solutions.
  • Make autonomous technical decisions driven by engineering requirements.
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving abilities, effective project management, and clear communication skills.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proficient in BIW closure and structure design using CATIA V5.
  • Experience developing automotive body structures from conceptual stages to production.
  • Capability to independently perform master section development and feasibility analysis.
  • Sound understanding of sheet metal materials, manufacturing and assembly processes, and crashworthiness considerations.
  • Knowledgeable in GD&T, sheet metal tolerances, DFM and DFA methodologies.
  • Adept at collaborating with styling teams and suppliers to achieve manufacturable and validated designs.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.
