Associate Director of Culture & Colleague Experience

Role Overview

The Associate Director of Culture & Colleague Experience is a senior leadership position responsible for defining and executing the strategic vision related to the Trust's culture, employee engagement, inclusion, organisational development, and overall colleague experience at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. Reporting directly to the Director of People and acting as their deputy in these domains, this role is pivotal in shaping the organisational culture, optimizing team performance, and ensuring the Trust is recognized as both an excellent employer and healthcare provider.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the creation and implementation of an ambitious, data-driven Culture & Colleague Experience strategy aligned with clinical plans, workforce strategies, and national NHS workforce objectives.
• Serve as the foremost authority on culture, behavior change, and staff experience, influencing organizational identity and operations across multiple sites.
• Oversee a comprehensive, multi-year cultural transformation initiative incorporating organisational development theories, behavioural science, systems thinking, and compassionate leadership to ensure sustained and measurable cultural evolution.
• Advise senior management teams, executive boards, and system partners on complex issues related to culture, leadership behavior, organisational climate, and workforce changes.
• Represent the culture agenda at high-level meetings, including deputizing for the Director of People and providing strategic insight to the Trust Management Team and other executive forums.
• Integrate culture and colleague experience priorities within business planning, quality improvements, leadership development, and organisational design across the Trust.
• Shape and communicate a consistent narrative around values and behaviours across the entire Hospital Group to unify cultural messaging.
