Role overview

The Assistant Vice President, Asset Management Middle Office / Performance & Risk Analyst is responsible for measuring, reviewing, and reporting portfolio performance and risk indicators across QNB Asset Management products. The position prepares tailored client performance reports, supports benchmark analysis, performs attribution and transaction cost studies, and helps ensure alignment with GIPS and other performance standards. The role works closely with investment, product, compliance, and control teams to produce accurate, useful reporting that meets both internal expectations and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Measure portfolio performance and risk across asset classes and compare results with strategic benchmarks.
  • Carry out performance and risk attribution to explain outcomes from asset allocation, security selection, currency, and style effects.
  • Create customized reports to match specific client needs.
  • Review and explain risk-adjusted measures such as Sharpe ratio, alpha, beta, tracking error, and volatility.
  • Assess fund expenses, transaction charges, and fees to improve transparency and support cost comparisons.
  • Work with investment managers to refine fund structures using historical performance patterns.
  • Maintain and enhance performance measurement tools, report templates, and data flows.
  • Prepare composite performance summaries in line with GIPS reporting requirements.
  • Support automation and quality checks for recurring internal and client reporting.
  • Implement KPIs and best-practice processes for the Assistant Vice President, Asset Management Middle Office function.
  • Promote efficient use of resources, cost awareness, and productivity improvements to reduce waste and improve value for the bank.
  • Operate within the limits of delegated authority.
  • Keep current on performance attribution models, risk metrics, and fund structures.
  • Build reporting capability using advanced Excel, SQL, VBA, and BI tools.
  • Take part in workshops and cross-functional discussions with Product, Investment, and Business Control teams.
  • Support the adoption of automation tools and better dashboard visuals.
  • Help internal and external customers with product-related queries and work toward suitable solutions.
  • Meet SLAs with internal departments to improve turnaround times.
  • Develop strong working relationships with relevant departments to support the Group’s objectives.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to auditors, compliance, financial control, and risk teams when needed.
  • Work with Investment Management and Product teams to ensure reporting is accurate and relevant.
  • Coordinate with Trade Support & Data and Business Control so that data inputs comply with internal and regulatory standards.
  • Identify and escalate data issues, unusual items, and reporting exceptions proactively.
  • Take ownership of personal development and stay up to date in the professional area.
  • Follow all legal, regulatory, and internal compliance obligations, including AML & CTF, sanctions, data protection, fraud control, whistleblowing, conflict of interest, and insider dealing policies.
  • Carry out responsibilities under the Three Lines of Defense model to identify, assess, monitor, manage, and report risks.
  • Help ensure positive customer outcomes under the Conduct Risk policy.
  • Support RCSA, KRI, incident reporting, and remediation activities as needed under Operational Risk Management requirements.
  • Maintain the knowledge needed to remain fully qualified for the role.
  • Complete mandatory bank training and maintain the required competence levels.
  • Attend required internal and external seminars as directed by the Bank.
  • Protect sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality of customer and internal bank data.
  • Share information only on a strict need-to-know basis with senior management, audit, compliance, and relevant regulators.
  • Maintain high professional standards that support QNB’s reputation and market position.
  • Handle additional ad hoc tasks and activities related to QNB as assigned by management.

Education and experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or another quantitative discipline is required.
  • CFA Level I or CIPM certification is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in performance analysis, risk attribution, or investment operations within asset management or financial services is required.
  • Experience with performance measurement tools, GIPS reporting, and attribution methods is expected.
  • Hands-on exposure to Excel, Python, SQL, or BI platforms such as Power BI or Tableau is needed.
  • Strong understanding of performance attribution, benchmark alignment, and client reporting is required.
  • Knowledge of risk-adjusted return measures and investment mandates is required.
  • Ability to convert complex data into clear client-facing insights is important.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic, including report-writing ability, are required.
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills are needed.
  • Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and market practices is required.
  • Ability to make decisions and follow through on initiatives is required.
  • Strong personal integrity and self-management are expected.
  • Planning, organization, and analytical capability are required.
  • A results-oriented mindset and the ability to communicate effectively with all management levels are required.
