Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate in designing and executing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs tailored for specific sports teams to enhance athletic capability and minimize injury risks.
- Apply evidence-based training methodologies to improve attributes such as strength, speed, agility, flexibility, and stamina.
- Provide instruction on proper techniques for weightlifting, speed, agility, and conditioning, emphasizing correct progression.
- Educate athletes on strategies for injury prevention and effective training protocols.
- Oversee the safe and efficient use of the weight room during training sessions.
- Manage scheduling of team workouts, operations of training facilities, and enforce safety guidelines.
- Assist with athletic performance assessments, monitoring, and systematic data collection to support athlete growth and development.
Position Information
- Duration: 9-month work year corresponding to the 2025-2026 school year.
- Working Hours: Late afternoons Monday through Friday and weekends.
- Compensation: Starting hourly wage of $16.00, adjusted based on candidate qualifications and experience.
- Punahou School provides a comprehensive compensation package including competitive pay.
Required Qualifications
- Pursuing or holding a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related discipline, or progressing towards NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification, or a similar blend of education, experience, and training.
- Valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Strong foundational knowledge in strength training, biomechanics, and injury prevention methods.
- Effective teaching capabilities in proper lifting mechanics and training progressions.
- Familiarity with emergency response procedures and safety standards.
- Basic competence with computer applications for training program management and communication.
- Experienced in leading groups of varied sizes in diverse training contexts.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with coaches, trainers, administrators, and student-athletes.
- Ability to operate autonomously, evaluate athlete needs, and make prudent decisions.
- Skilled in problem-solving and resolving conflicts constructively.
- Dedicated to nurturing a supportive and inclusive training environment.
