About the Role
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was founded in February 1996 with the mission to establish Singapore as a global premier hub port and an international maritime centre (IMC). MPA plays multiple key roles including Port Authority, Regulator, Planner, IMC Champion, and National Maritime Representative, driving Singapore's maritime and port development.
Within MPA’s Strategy & Policy function, the Hub Strategy team shapes maritime strategies by applying economic principles, conducting thorough economic analyses, and forecasting market trends. This role offers opportunities to engage in diverse qualitative and quantitative research projects that contribute to addressing strategic challenges and supporting informed management decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and research global and Singapore-specific economic developments such as trade flow patterns, productivity measures, and value addition within maritime sectors.
- Analyze maritime sector trends including supply chains and freight market dynamics using both quantitative and qualitative methods to derive actionable insights relevant to Maritime Singapore.
- Develop forecasting models and scenario frameworks to explore and stimulate varied strategic perspectives on maritime issues.
- Compile comprehensive reports and presentations to effectively convey research findings and strategic implications to stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrates strong quantitative and qualitative analytical abilities, eagerness to learn across a wide spectrum of topics, with sharp critical thinking and ability to form well-reasoned judgments.
- Possesses solid expertise in quantitative techniques such as econometrics and data science, useful for forecasting, modeling, and impact evaluation.
- Exhibits effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate well and present ideas clearly.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; familiarity with programming languages like Python and data visualization software such as Power BI is advantageous.
- Holds or is pursuing a degree preferably in Economics; candidates at entry-level (fresh graduates) are encouraged to apply. Job title and compensation will align with experience level.
