Assistant Director of Prospect Research and Identification

About the Role

The Assistant Director of Prospect Research and Identification is integral to supporting fundraising initiatives at the OHSU Foundation. This temporary position (September 2026 through February 2027) involves identifying, researching, and evaluating potential donors to facilitate philanthropic growth. Working closely with development officers and leaders, the role involves data-driven analysis and creating actionable insights to support donor engagement activities. The position can be performed remotely or in a hybrid work setup with occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate as a strategic ally with assigned development officers to discover prospects aligned with fundraising goals and expanding portfolios.
• Design and implement strategies to generate and maintain a dynamic pool of prospects, tracking their progress within team and individual pipelines.
• Monitor multiple sources such as websites, news outlets, donor lists, wealth data, and referrals to identify potential donors.
• Evaluate and rank prospective major and principal gift donors by analyzing capacity, affinity, strategy alignment, and readiness using diverse research tools.
• Analyze data patterns to inform fundraising strategies and enhance prospect development processes.
• Conduct detailed research using internal records, paid databases, and public resources covering financials, philanthropic interests, affiliations, and donor connections to OHSU.
• Create and upkeep comprehensive profiles on individuals and organizations to guide Foundation leaders, faculty, and staff.
• Provide tailored research and intelligence to assist in donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship aligned with organizational priorities.
• Manage research requests and projects, delivering timely support to Foundation and university stakeholders.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

• Proven experience (5-7 years) in development research or a related field within healthcare, higher education, or complex non-profit environments.
• Expertise in major and principal gift prospect strategy development and research.
• Experience utilizing relational databases for fundraising, preferably Kindsight AdvancementRM, Salesforce, or similar CRMs.
• Advanced research skills including extensive use of online reference tools, data screening, and financial data analysis such as SEC information.
• Familiarity with prospect research resources like DonorSearch, Relationship Science, Lexis-Nexis, Candid, and Blackbaud Giving.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with advanced skills preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and cultural competency skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

Work Environment and Schedule

• Work can be fully remote with occasional required travel to the Portland office.
• May require extended hours occasionally for meetings or programs.
• Significant computer use is expected.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary ranges between $79,595 and $106,126 depending on step level and experience, with distinct pay bands allowing for growth through performance and tenure. Benefits include comprehensive medical and dental coverage, a 12% annual pension contribution by the Foundation, 22 days paid vacation, 11 paid holidays, one floating holiday, two volunteer days, professional development funds, hybrid work allowances, and a flexible work environment including early summer Fridays.
