Role Overview
The Assistant Director of People & Culture will oversee daily human resources operations at Recess Hotel & Club, acting as the direct HR contact for employees and leadership. This position operates within a shared HR model supporting both Recess and Hotel Bardo Savannah. The role requires close collaboration with the People & Culture team to uphold consistent HR practices, strong communication, and ensure a positive employee experience.
This hands-on leadership position demands a versatile generalist with expertise in employee relations, onboarding, legal compliance, investigations, managerial support, and handling team inquiries. The incumbent ensures that HR procedures are practical, standardized, compliant with laws, and aligned with the hotel's service culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main on-site HR contact for team members and supervisors at Recess Hotel & Club.
- Collaborate with People & Culture leadership to maintain standardized HR processes across properties.
- Provide daily advisory support and coaching to management on topics such as employee relations, performance management, documentation, policy interpretation, and communication.
- Manage employee relations issues, including intake, investigations, corrective actions, documentation, and follow-ups.
- Coordinate orientation and integration of new hires to ensure a smooth, welcoming onboarding experience aligned with brand standards.
- Keep accurate records including HRIS data, personnel files, compliance documentation, and reports.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local labor laws, company policies, and workplace protocols.
- Respond timely to employee inquiries concerning policies, benefits, payroll, timekeeping, workplace issues, and general HR matters.
- Support performance management with documentation, coaching, follow-up, and holding managers accountable.
- Assist in benefits administration, leave management, workers' compensation claims, and routine HR functions.
- Promote workplace culture, engagement, recognition, and communication initiatives fostering a positive, service-focused environment.
- Partner with management to preemptively resolve workplace challenges.
- Help coordinate training efforts including compliance training, employee orientation, and managerial development.
- Ensure the team member experience consistently reflects the hospitality standard expected by guests.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years progressive experience in Human Resources, preferably within hospitality, luxury service, or high-touch service sectors.
- Proven expertise as a generalist with practical skills in employee relations, onboarding, compliance, HR administration, and managerial support.
- Ability to handle sensitive personnel matters with discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Sound knowledge of employment legislation, HR best practices, documentation standards, and compliance requirements.
- Experience in hotels, resorts, restaurants, or multi-shift operational contexts is favored.
- Competency with HRIS software is required; familiarity with Rippling is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Hospitality, or related field preferred; equivalent experience also considered.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving skills, and effective follow-through.
- Capacity to balance approachability and accountability when supporting employees and management.
