Job description
About the Role
UNLV is seeking an Assistant Director of IT Support for the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine. Reporting to the Director of IT Operations, this role leads the Service Desk, Field Support, and Endpoint Lifecycle Management functions, helping deliver dependable and user-focused technology support for students, faculty, staff, medical professionals, and community members.
The position is centered on operational leadership: defining service standards, guiding team growth, tracking service performance, and improving the overall support experience. It works in close coordination with UNLV Health, campus partners, and IT colleagues to keep services efficient, consistent, and aligned with the school’s academic, clinical, and operational needs.
The IT department at the School of Medicine supports a broad range of services for both the school and UNLV Health, with an emphasis on strong service, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
School Overview
The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV focuses on improving health outcomes in Nevada through education, research, and patient care. The school is fully accredited and internationally recognized for research in areas including brain health, Alzheimer’s disease, and lupus. Through UNLV Health, its practice plan serves more than 20,000 patients each month across primary and specialty care. By expanding the number of medical students, residents, and fellows, the school is helping address Nevada’s physician shortage and strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership for the Service Desk, Field Support, and Endpoint Lifecycle Management teams.
- Set and communicate service expectations that promote responsive, reliable, customer-centered support.
- Support the growth, coaching, and performance of technical support staff and team leads.
- Monitor operational results and use them to improve service quality and consistency.
- Develop and refine service delivery strategies, procedures, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Partner with UNLV Health, campus teams, and IT colleagues to align support operations with institutional priorities.
- Help ensure technology services meet the needs of the school’s academic, clinical, and operational environments.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or CHEA.
- Five years of related experience.
- Three years of supervisory or management experience.
- Experience in higher education, a medical school, or another professional program.
- Background managing Service Desk, Field Support, and/or endpoint support services.
- Experience building and implementing service delivery plans, operating procedures, and improvement initiatives.
- Experience supervising, coaching, and developing technical support teams and team leads.
- Credentials must be obtained before the start date.
- Preferred: five years of management, supervisory, and related experience.
- Preferred: ITIL certification.
- Preferred: Microsoft fundamentals or similar credentials such as MCSE or MOS.
- UNLV may accept additional relevant experience instead of the degree requirement: four extra years of relevant experience in place of a bachelor’s degree, or an associate’s degree plus two additional years of relevant experience.

- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Retirement plans and voluntary benefits.
- No state income tax.
