Job description
About the organisation
Ballina Shire is a coastal community on the far north coast of New South Wales, roughly 20 minutes from Byron Bay and about an hour from the Gold Coast. The area is known for its tourism appeal, with clean beaches, rainforest getaways and hinterland scenery. This role offers the chance to live and work in an attractive regional lifestyle setting.
About the role
Ballina Shire Council is seeking an energetic and capable person to join its Trades and Services team. The position is part of a practical, hands-on crew that carries out a broad mix of construction, maintenance and inspection tasks across council buildings and facilities. The work supports the safety, usability and presentation of community assets.
The role covers maintenance of a varied portfolio that includes council offices, community halls, parks, public amenities, cultural venues, libraries, swimming pools and surf life saving facilities.
What you will bring
- A work style that reflects Council’s values: creative, accessible, respectful, energetic and safe.
- A current MR class driver licence and a clean, safe driving history.
- Proven experience handling general labouring and maintenance work within the building industry.
- White Card accreditation for construction-industry safety.
- A forklift licence, or a willingness to obtain one.
- Ability and experience working at heights.
- Willingness to take part in on-call duties as required by the roster.
Rewards and workplace benefits
- Annual pay between $59,300 and $68,000, plus 12% superannuation, depending on your skills and experience.
- Flexible working arrangements, including a rostered day off option such as a 9-day fortnight or 4-day week.
- Stable employment with a supportive, values-led team culture.
- Wellbeing support and health initiatives, including Fitness Passport membership options.
- Work that contributes directly to the region’s long-term sustainability and liveability.
- Uniform and PPE provided.
- An inclusive environment that values diversity, equity and respect.
- A strong commitment to employee safety and wellbeing.
- Generous award-based employment conditions.
