Position Overview
The Visual Arts Teacher will create and sustain a safe, inclusive classroom aligned with Massachusetts Visual Arts Curriculum Frameworks. The role involves planning age-appropriate, challenging lessons that promote rigorous learning and cultivate strong intellectual habits. Candidates will support diverse learning preferences and encourage students to collaborate and work independently in high school art settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement engaging, standards-compliant visual arts lessons for high school students across various media such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art.
- Encourage creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork among students.
- Guide students in critical thinking and personal expression through art.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Display student artworks within the school and at public exhibits.
- Conduct regular assessments and document student progress effectively.
- Integrate technology and interdisciplinary connections appropriately.
- Participate actively in school planning, professional growth, and team collaborations.
- Communicate continuously with students, families, and colleagues.
- Exemplify and promote high standards for student conduct and academic success.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a closely related discipline.
- Certification in Visual Arts (High School) by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Experience with middle school students is advantageous.
- Fluency in more than one language is highly encouraged.
- Familiarity and dedication to urban education and community involvement preferred.
