Role Overview
The Analyst role is a key accounting support position within the Investment Accounting team. Reporting to Investment Accounting leadership, the position works closely with Asset Management, Treasury, and Corporate Accounting. It offers training and hands-on experience to build a foundational understanding of property accounting and the operating side of commercial real estate investments. The role also provides mentorship from experienced real estate professionals in a highly visible and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will help manage accounting workflows and support financial reporting processes across a portfolio of properties.
- Review and approve property operations workflows to support invoice payments and ensure general ledger entries are coded correctly.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations and gain exposure to more technical accounting transactions.
- Prepare accurate monthly accruals for multiple investments and carry out related financial analysis, including balance sheet classification.
- Work with the lease administration team on property lease setup and assist with budget-versus-actual commentary for rental income.
- Partner with Asset Management and Property Management to review accounts receivable details, confirm income is billed according to lease terms, and gain exposure to percentage rent and annual recovery item reconciliations.
- Support the Investment Accounting leadership team and Asset Management colleagues during budgeting and reforecasting for all properties.
Requirements
- A solid grasp of GAAP is expected, and familiarity with fair value accounting is preferred.
- A genuine interest in real estate is required.
- Strong command of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is necessary.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work are essential.
- The ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet demanding deadlines is important.
- Interest in improving processes and documenting procedures is valued.
