Position Summary
The Funds & Asset Management team at Fitch Ratings, based in Toronto, is seeking an Analyst to contribute to fund ratings analysis, methodology and model development, and research publication regarding developments in the asset management sector worldwide. The group’s scope includes private equity fund finance, securitizations, leveraged closed-end funds, money market funds, bond funds, ETFs, local government investment pools, and asset managers.
Responsibilities
- Assess both quantitative and qualitative factors affecting creditworthiness of funds and structured finance transactions, including detailed portfolio evaluations.
- Conduct and lead on-site due diligence meetings with fund managers.
- Innovate and develop rating methodologies tailored to funds and related structures based on market needs.
- Produce research and reports on pertinent sector trends impacting asset management.
- Examine legal transaction documents such as indentures and prospectuses.
- Create and maintain financial models and databases to support analysis.
- Prepare and present rating recommendations to review committees.
- Guide, mentor, and assist in the development of fellow team members within the group.
- Engage with industry participants through events, including investors, bankers, and fund managers.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one year experience in finance, preferably with exposure to fund finance or structured finance transactions; job level adjusted to candidate’s experience.
- Educational background comprising at least a bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, statistics, accounting, computer science, or a related field.
- Strong analytical capability with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Experience with fund finance operations, such as subscription or NAV facilities.
- Familiarity with programming languages like SQL and VBA.
- Established history of taking initiative and delivering tangible results.
