Job description

About CIBC and the team

CIBC is focused on building a relationship-led banking experience that serves today’s clients well. The organization looks for motivated professionals who want to do the right thing for clients and make a real difference.

Within CIBC Capital Markets, the bank offers integrated investment banking, global markets, and credit solutions across North America and other major markets. The firm delivers capital-raising and advisory support across a wide range of industries and continues to expand its U.S. investment banking presence.

As part of Equity Solutions and Equity Capital Markets, this role sits inside CIBC’s New York investment banking group. The environment is energetic, fast-moving, and constantly changing, so the successful candidate must be able to process information quickly, adapt to shifting market conditions, and bring creativity, drive, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Role overview

The Analyst will gain hands-on exposure to equity and equity-linked underwriting, advisory work, corporate equity derivatives, and margin loans. The position also offers experience across a variety of transaction types, including IPOs, convertibles and call spreads, cross-border deals, stake acquisitions, and financing transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Support senior professionals with analytical work, structuring, research, and transaction due diligence.
  • Prepare client-facing presentations and internal presentation materials.
  • Monitor and track equity and corporate derivatives markets.
  • Help win new business and contribute to the execution of live transactions.
  • Work closely with colleagues across Corporate and Investment Banking, Global Markets, and Risk Management.
  • Build strong internal and external relationships through clear communication and teamwork.

Candidate profile

Applicants should bring strong interest in financial markets and a solid understanding of equities, equity-linked securities, and derivatives. Prior exposure to equity and equity-linked products is strongly preferred, along with familiarity with corporate equity derivative concepts.

The role calls for someone who can analyze financial statements, understand credit analysis and accounting basics, and think in a structured, detail-oriented way. Strong writing and presentation ability is important, as is the capacity to quickly absorb complex topics. The right candidate will contribute effectively in high-performing teams, manage multiple priorities at once, and remain composed in a demanding environment that may require extended hours.

Successful candidates should also align with CIBC’s values of trust, teamwork, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Background in business, economics, and/or finance gained through education and experience.
  • Strong interest in financial markets and knowledge of equities, equity-linked securities, and derivatives.
  • Preferred experience in equity and equity-linked products, plus understanding of corporate equity derivative concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements.
  • Working knowledge of credit analysis and accounting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and logical thinking.
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
  • Ability to understand complex ideas quickly.
  • Proven track record of contributing to strong team performance.
  • Willingness to work extended hours in a high-pressure, high-reward setting.
  • Ability to take initiative and manage several projects at the same time.
  • Alignment with CIBC values: trust, teamwork, and accountability.

Compensation and benefits

The expected base salary for this New York role is $115,000 to $135,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and location. The selected candidate may also be eligible for the business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may include a discretionary bonus.

CIBC provides a broad benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, Health Savings Account, Life Insurance, Disability, and other insurance plans, along with Paid Time Off, Sick Leave, Parental Leave, Vacation, Holidays, and a 401(k). Additional special perks may also be available.

Team members may also receive banking benefits, a wellbeing support offering, and recognition through the MomentMakers program. CIBC also offers Purpose Day, a paid day off to support personal growth and development. Benefits and rewards are subject to plan and program terms and conditions.

Additional information

CIBC is committed to an inclusive workplace where team members and clients feel they belong. The company provides an accessible candidate experience and can offer accommodation if needed.

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the listed location and, where applicable, hold a valid work or study permit.

CIBC may require an attribute-based assessment and other skills tests during hiring, such as simulation, coding, or MS Office exercises. The application process is designed to help the company learn more about candidates and to give candidates a better understanding of CIBC.

The job is located at 300 Madison Ave., 8th Floor, New York, NY.

This position is a regular full-time role with a weekly schedule of 40 hours.
