Job description
Role overview
An Air Corps Recruit is a new entrant who joins the Defence Forces through the General Service route. This Air Corps recruitment track is suited to people who are interested in aviation, operational safety and working as part of a close-knit team.
What the role involves
As a recruit, you will be trained to serve in a disciplined military setting and contribute to the wider Air Corps mission. The role is physically demanding, fast-paced and team-oriented, and it also includes the possibility of overseas service with the Defence Forces.
Who the Defence Forces are looking for
The organisation is seeking candidates who bring integrity, commitment and a strong standard of personal conduct. You should be comfortable working under pressure, able to cooperate closely with others and willing to adapt to a highly structured environment.
Eligibility requirements
- You must be at least 18 years old and younger than 39 years old. Age proof will be needed if you move forward in the selection process.
- Your height must be at least 5 feet 2 inches, which is 157.48 cm. This will be checked during selection.
- Visible tattoos above the collar are not permitted while serving, and this will be assessed during recruitment.
- You need to satisfy the work-permit criteria for service in the Defence Forces, meaning you must have at least 5 years’ eligibility to remain in Ireland. Evidence of this will be required with your application.
- You must pass the medical, physical and security vetting standards used in the recruitment process.
Training and career path
Recruit training lasts 13 weeks. Once that is completed, you will progress to Three Star Training for another 12 weeks. After successful completion, you will be promoted to Airman/Airwoman and posted to the Air Corps.
Following posting, you may be able to move into specialist roles such as Flight Attendant, Aviation Fire Crew, Air Traffic Controller, Sensor and Radar Operator (SARO), Aircraft Trainee Technician, Aviation Photographer, Logistics, Specialist Helicopter Aircrew and Operations.
