Role Overview
The Agricultural Assistant will play an essential role in supporting practical agricultural education at the school. This position ensures that agricultural field sites, livestock, crops, machinery, and related equipment are maintained properly and safely to facilitate engaging, hands-on learning experiences for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare agricultural fields, machinery, equipment, and materials for use.
- Perform planting, watering, and routine care of crops and market gardens, including the responsible application of insecticides and fertilizers as needed.
- Tend to animal care including feeding and cleaning cages or pens.
- Take basic measurements such as weighing crop yields for monitoring purposes.
- Procure agricultural supplies and materials following authorization by the Head of Department, Principal, or approved delegate.
- Conduct activities related to animal husbandry, crop cultivation, and soil enhancement.
- Establish and maintain field study sites by repairing fences, gates, and managing soil conditions.
- Organize regular servicing and upkeep of agricultural machinery to meet warranty and safety standards.
- Keep store rooms, machinery sheds, and field laboratories orderly, safe, and operational.
- Care for plant rooms, glasshouses, and aquariums used in agricultural studies.
- Maintain records of fuel, gases, chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides utilized in agricultural tasks.
