About the Role
Westpac New Zealand invites applications for its Agribusiness Graduate positions in the upcoming 2027 Graduate Programme, commencing February 2027. This programme offers a permanent graduate role tailored to develop the next generation of leaders in agribusiness banking. Participants will have opportunities to build strong professional networks and engage in various experiences that enhance career growth.
Programme Overview
The Graduate Programme is designed to provide immersive experience within Westpac's Agribusiness team, a group deeply knowledgeable in New Zealand's agricultural sector, with many members having farming backgrounds themselves. The role involves supporting agribusiness customers by simplifying their banking needs and offering insightful guidance related to their industry.
Based primarily in the Waikato, the programme runs for around 10-12 months. Starting as a permanent employee, participants will undergo comprehensive orientation alongside other graduates to build an understanding of Westpac NZ’s operations, followed by support to secure a role aligned with their strengths and interests upon programme completion.
Support and Development
Throughout the programme, extensive learning opportunities and mentorship from agribusiness banking specialists and leaders will help graduates advance both their technical and interpersonal skills. The structure aims to identify key focus areas and foster professional and personal growth, incorporating involvement in community initiatives, volunteering, and sustainability activities to enrich work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
- Gain in-depth knowledge of Westpac’s banking products, services, and agribusiness industry expertise.
- Assist with analyzing financial data and preparing credit submissions for customers.
- Conduct periodic reviews following credit policy and risk management standards.
- Undertake a significant project addressing a real business challenge, proposing and implementing solutions, and presenting outcomes to stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants must be in their final year of study or have graduated within the last 12 months with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Candidates must be New Zealand or Australian citizens or permanent residents.
Ideal candidates will have a passion for agribusiness, strong customer relationship skills, and thrive in collaborative team settings. Preferred degree backgrounds include Agribusiness, Agri Commerce, or similar fields.
- Understanding and experience related to New Zealand agriculture.
- Ability to identify opportunities, innovate, and enhance productivity.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
