Job description
Role Overview
The AGM/DGM – Operations position is focused on running the hospital’s daily administrative and operational activities to support excellent patient care, smooth workflows, and adherence to healthcare rules and standards. This role requires a strong blend of leadership, analytical thinking, communication, and the ability to improve operations in a busy, patient-first healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the daily functioning of major hospital areas such as OPD, IPD, diagnostics, pharmacy, support services, and facilities.
- Improve resource use, patient movement, and service turnaround times.
- Work closely with departmental teams to track clinical and non-clinical operations and handle escalations effectively.
- Partner with leadership to design and implement operational plans that support hospital objectives.
- Manage hiring, performance reviews, training, appraisal cycles, and retention for suitable staff.
- Launch new process improvements and track KPIs to strengthen productivity and efficiency.
- Maintain compliance with regulations and accreditation readiness for NABH, NABL, and JCI, along with clinical indicators, patient care standards, facility operations, and quality initiatives.
- Track patient feedback and grievance handling processes to improve service experience.
- Support budgeting and financial planning for operational activities.
- Oversee quality assurance efforts and patient safety programs.
- Supervise facility functions including housekeeping, security, maintenance, and biomedical equipment.
- Handle vendor coordination and service contracts to ensure value-for-money procurement and dependable service delivery.
- Strengthen patient satisfaction through quick service, efficient admission and discharge processes, and compassionate care.
- Coordinate with front office, billing, and medical records teams to deliver a seamless patient journey.
- Prepare recurring reports on operational performance, patient volumes, utilization, and cost-related factors.
- Present monthly and quarterly dashboards to senior management for review and decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should be graduates or postgraduates with at least 15 years of progressive experience in hospital operations, ideally in institutions with 300+ beds. A Master’s degree in Hospital Administration (MHA), an MBA in Hospital Management, or an equivalent qualification is preferred. Additional training in leadership, quality assurance, or healthcare management is an advantage. Experience with hospital quality benchmarks, vendor audits, and policy implementation is also important. Familiarity with accreditation and compliance processes such as NABH, NABL, and JCI is expected.
