Job description

Company overview

Cigna Healthcare is a worldwide health services company focused on making care easier to understand, more affordable, and more predictable while improving health, wellbeing, and peace of mind. The organization is established but still advancing its agile ways of working.

You will be part of a distributed team working across Kuala Lumpur, Bengaluru, Nairobi, Antwerp, and Madrid, supporting the International Organisations Health (IOH) business and its more than 500,000 customers around the world.

About the role

The Product Owner is responsible for maximizing value at the Scrum Team level by turning product strategy and priorities into well-defined backlog items that can be delivered effectively. In partnership with the Agile Product Manager, this role balances customer needs, business outcomes, and delivery commitments to support consistent and high-quality execution.

Acting as the customer advocate for the Scrum Team, the Product Owner helps drive continuous improvement and value realization. The role focuses on IOH backend products across Mainframe and Financial Services, with exposure to payments, billing, eligibility, and finance operations that support internal workflows and integrations.

Core priorities include building dependable, compliant, and scalable capabilities for payment handling, financial reporting, and data accuracy. The position also works closely with external vendors, internal platforms, and internal IOH groups such as operations, finance, claims, eligibility, and back-office teams.

The ideal candidate brings a balanced mix of technology understanding, financial operations knowledge, healthcare administration exposure, user experience awareness, and agile delivery experience. This person will work across stakeholders to align business and technical goals and ensure the team produces measurable business value.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Agile Product Manager to shape the product vision, roadmap, and outcomes in line with business strategy and customer needs.
  • Keep delivery progress and key milestones visible so roadmaps stay current and realistic.
  • Represent the customer’s perspective for the Scrum Team and make sure backlog priorities reflect customer value.
  • Convert release train priorities into clear, value-driven team backlog priorities.
  • Support the Agile Product Manager during feature refinement.
  • Break features into user stories and continue refining them with developers, testers, and business subject matter experts.
  • Maintain the quality of the Jira backlog and approve stories before they are moved to Done/Accepted.
  • Lead PI planning activities and objectives to support predictable team-level delivery.
  • Work with the Scrum Master, QA, and UAT teams to monitor delivery, quality, and predictability measures.
  • Ensure analytics are available to track usage, customer experience, and delivery performance.
  • Provide practical insights to the Agile Product Manager to support product improvement and evolution.
  • Encourage a growth-oriented and psychologically safe team environment.
  • Demonstrate an agile approach centered on learning, feedback, and validating value.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to keep alignment strong and dependencies under control.
  • Promote continuous improvement using data-backed decisions.
  • Partner with Customer Experience and UX/UI teams so the customer voice is reflected throughout delivery.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Strong command of the English language is required.
  • Experience using Jira or a similar tool is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of agile methods is expected; the candidate should bring either strong domain/business experience or solid agile delivery experience.
  • Healthcare experience is preferred; alternatively, strong industry/business expertise or agile delivery experience is acceptable.
  • Ability to bridge technical discussions and business conversations with cross-functional partners.
  • Demonstrated success in building trusted working relationships across functions and business areas.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle several competing priorities at once.
  • Sound judgment and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving, changing environment.
  • Adaptable mindset with a practical and creative approach to changing circumstances, resources, and direction.
  • Willingness to work with International Health stakeholders across multiple regions and time zones.
  • SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager certification is required before or after joining.
