Role overview

Kids Inc. is hiring part-time Afterschool Childcare Assistants for the 2026/2027 school term in the Ballsbridge area and nearby locations. The work is term-time and site-based, with a guaranteed minimum of 10 hours each week and extra hours often available, usually bringing the week to around 20 to 25 hours.

The starting rate is €15.75 per hour, although the current pay rate is €15.00 per hour and will move to €15.75 per hour from 1st October 2026. The planned start date is 26th August 2026.

With more than 25 years in childcare, Kids Inc. is a major Irish provider of early years and afterschool care. The organisation runs more than 70 breakfast and afterschool programmes across the country, in addition to creche and preschool services.

• St. Christopher's, Ballsbridge
• Europass, Ballsbridge
• St. Mary's, Donnybrook
• Harcourt Terrace ETNS, Charlemont

Placement will depend on the applicant's preference and the operational needs of the service.

What the role involves

This afterschool setting offers children a safe, friendly, and engaging space where they can unwind after school, finish homework, and join in enjoyable activities. The assistant helps create a positive experience and supports children's growth through play, learning, creativity, and social interaction.

• Help children transition smoothly into the afterschool routine
• Support homework completion in a calm, organised setting
• Take part in and lead activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, imaginative play, and outdoor activities
• Encourage social, emotional, physical, and creative development
• Build positive working relationships with children, families, and team members
• Support the daily operation of the service
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment

What we're looking for

Applicants should bring a positive and dependable approach, along with a genuine interest in children and their development. Prior experience working with children is preferred. Strong spoken and written English is required. A full driving licence is helpful but not mandatory.

Successful candidates must be willing to complete Garda Vetting and reference checks. Where applicable, candidates who have lived outside Ireland for more than six months since age 18 must also provide a valid Police Clearance Certificate.

Additional information

This is a term-time position for the 2026/2027 school year. Candidates selected for the role will be assigned to a school based on preference and operational requirements. All successful applicants must complete Garda Vetting and, where relevant, provide a Police Clearance Certificate.
