Role overview
The University of Canterbury is hiring an Administrator to support departments and programmes within the School of Language, Social and Political Sciences in the Faculty of Arts. This is a full-time role of 37.5 hours per week and runs on a fixed-term basis until 1 December 2026. The position is based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand, and is to be performed onsite.
What the role involves
You will deliver efficient, high-quality administrative support across the school, helping with day-to-day coordination and ensuring key processes run smoothly. A major part of the role is supporting the contracting and onboarding of new staff, looking after a departmental budget, and making sure contractor timesheets are approved in a timely manner.
Team and working environment
You will work closely with five other administrators in the school and will mainly support Global, Cultural and Languages Studies, Anthropology, and Sociology. The broader school includes Media and Communication, Sociology, Human Services, Linguistics, Anthropology, Political Science, and Global, Cultural and Languages Studies.
Who you should be
To be successful, you should bring at least three years of experience in an administrative position, ideally gained in a medium to large organisation. You will need to be organised, dependable, and comfortable handling multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
