Academy Player Care Manager (Under 18)

About the Role

We are seeking an Academy Player Care Manager for the Under 18 age group to join our Academy Operations team. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the wellbeing and personal development of young players within the Academy. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with players, families, host families, and multidisciplinary team members to deliver individualized player care.

This role includes managing key initiatives such as the Lifelong Learner Programme and the Host Family Programme to ensure comprehensive support throughout the players’ Academy journey. The post-holder will contribute to the Academy’s wellbeing strategy and foster strong relationships across departments to aid young players’ personal and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop positive relationships with Under 18 players and their families, offering tailored advice and serving as a main contact point.
• Manage and coordinate age-appropriate life skills and personal development activities as part of the Lifelong Learner Programme aligned with Premier League standards.
• Lead the Host Family Programme by recruiting host families, coordinating player placements including those in the Full Time Training programme, conducting monthly reviews, and maintaining regular communication with host families.
• Support the Academy Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy including wellbeing assessments and assistance with transition processes.
• Maintain accurate and confidential player care records for the Under 18 group.
• Connect players with appropriate support resources working collaboratively with families and internal teams to resolve challenges and support development.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to share insights and promote player progress.
• Assist with the organization of Academy events, tours, tournaments, and wider player care initiatives as needed.
• Uphold a position of trust with children and vulnerable adults, maintaining high standards of conduct and complying with Club and FA safeguarding training and policies.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience supporting children, young people, and families, ideally in a player care or welfare role.
• Ability to manage a dynamic workload under shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with effective communication across diverse internal and external contacts.
• Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to achieve common goals.
• Excellent organizational abilities to manage programmes, maintain records, and balance competing demands.
• Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and processes relevant to working with young people.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and competent administrative skills with attention to detail.
• A compassionate, approachable, and trustworthy demeanor to build trust, handle sensitive matters confidentially, and positively influence team culture.
