Job description

About the Role

We are seeking an Academy Player Care Manager for the Under 18 age category to join our Academy Operations department. This key position involves supporting the wellbeing and development of young players, working closely with the players themselves, their parents, host families, and a cross-disciplinary team of professionals.

The role includes ownership of vital initiatives such as the Lifelong Learner Programme and the Host Family Programme to ensure continuous support for players throughout their academy tenure. You will be an integral part of the Player Care team, contributing to overarching wellbeing strategies, fostering effective relationships across the Academy, and supporting the personal and professional growth of young athletes.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Build strong supportive connections with Under 18 players and their families, acting as a trusted point of contact and providing personalized care.
  • Manage and coordinate engaging life skills and personal development activities through the Lifelong Learner Programme, tailored to age relevance and Premier League standards.
  • Lead recruitment and coordination of host families and oversee player placements, including those in the Full Time Training programme, maintaining regular contact and monthly process reviews.
  • Support the Academy's Mental Health & Wellbeing Strategy, player wellbeing screening, and assist with transition-related support for players.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential care records for all Under 18 players.
  • Facilitate connections between players, families, and relevant departments to resolve any issues and promote player development.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary meetings, sharing insights and collaborating with colleagues to enhance player progress.
  • Support various Academy events and initiatives such as tours and tournaments as required.

Safeguarding Responsibility

Given the nature of this role involving frequent contact with minors and vulnerable adults, candidates must uphold strict conduct standards to prevent all forms of abuse. Continued compliance with Club and FA Safeguarding training is mandatory. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of DBS and other background checks.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Prior experience providing welfare, guidance, and support to children, young people, and families, preferably in similar player care settings.
  • Proven ability to manage workloads effectively in fast-changing environments.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills for liaising with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams to achieve common goals.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage programs, maintain detailed records, and juggle multiple demands.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safeguarding laws, policies, and best practices related to young individuals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and maintaining administrative accuracy.
  • A compassionate, approachable, and reliable demeanor, able to earn trust and handle sensitive information discreetly.

Why Join Us

  • Participation in a rewarding recognition scheme.
  • Generous vacation time that accrues with tenure.
  • Access to diverse learning and professional growth opportunities.
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements.
  • Priority for match ticket applications.
  • Comprehensive health and wellbeing benefits package.
  • Access to a premier Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Exclusive discounts with partner organizations.
  • Opportunity to contribute to our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion goals through employee networks.
