Job description

About NEXTDC

NEXTDC is a leading Australian technology company focused on designing, constructing, and running advanced data centres. The business supports a wide range of local and international organisations with highly efficient infrastructure and operates 16 data centres across 7 major cities, with further expansion planned in Australia and overseas. The company promotes collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning, with a mission to remain a customer-focused leader in data centre services.

The organisation describes itself as the place where cloud infrastructure powers digital growth and AI.

Role overview

NEXTDC is seeking a trades or technical professional to join its facilities team as a Data Centre Technician in a 24/7 operating environment. This is an entry-level opportunity with complete on-the-job training across data centre facilities and critical infrastructure, including cooling, electrical systems, cabling, building monitoring, and fire safety systems.

Based on Newcastle Street in Perth, this position supports the Facility Management team in the daily running of the data centre by delivering efficient technical maintenance and responsive customer support. The role is practical and facilities-focused rather than IT-focused, and may involve moving between sites during shifts when required.

Working pattern

The selected candidate will work a rotating 4-5-5 shift roster, with shifts running from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm during the day and 7:00 pm to 7:00 am overnight.

Key responsibilities

The role involves hands-on operational support across the data centre facility, including cabling, monitoring, issue resolution, and coordination with vendors and site users.

Additional information

This opportunity offers a chance to join a fast-growing Australian company contributing to the future of AI and the digital economy. NEXTDC also emphasises an inclusive, diverse, and values-led workplace with opportunities for career progression as the company expands.

Equality and culture

NEXTDC states that it is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities where it operates.

Requirements and qualifications

Applicants should bring a strong customer service mindset, clear communication skills, and a proactive attitude. A genuine interest in learning how telecommunications and related systems work is important, along with an enthusiasm for problem-solving and practical, hands-on work. Prior familiarity with data centres, structured cabling, and cable management is preferred but not essential.

Useful qualifications include a TAFE certificate in Telecommunications or trade qualifications such as Electrician or HVAC Technician, though these are listed as desirable rather than mandatory. Australian citizenship is required because the role involves security clearance.

Important notes

The role requires manual handling and may involve enforcing site rules for visitors and contractors. During shifts, travel between sites may occasionally be needed.
