Role Overview

This role involves collaborating with skilled Advisors to deliver comprehensive services to small and medium-sized businesses. Key duties include addressing clients' challenges with tailored solutions, offering technical accounting guidance, providing virtual CFO support, preparing financial statements and tax returns, as well as tax consulting and management accounting.

The Business Advisory unit, comprising over 500 finance professionals nationwide and led by experienced partners, serves a broad client base by resolving financial issues, streamlining processes, analyzing financial data, and supporting privately owned enterprises and families in reaching their financial goals.

Located across all Deloitte New Zealand offices, this team works closely with tax and other internal units to ensure exemplary client service.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with clients to resolve complex matters, presenting diverse solutions and insights.
  • Prepare management reports, financial statements, and tax filings while delivering expert advice on financial reporting, taxation, and systems/processes.
  • Develop proficiency in cloud-based financial systems like Xero and Taxlab, assisting clients' finance teams.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from Deloitte's Tax, Strategy Risk & Transactions, and Accounting & Reporting Advisory groups.

Candidate Profile

  • Currently pursuing any degree with a keen interest in business; commerce degrees with accounting or finance majors are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Eligibility for Chartered Accountancy or CPA pathways is common but not necessary; enthusiasm and willingness to learn business advisory skills are essential.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical aptitude and a passion for business and numerical data.
  • Driven, hardworking, and equipped with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, including emotional intelligence to manage client interactions and priorities effectively.
  • No prior experience is necessary; however, part-time roles or internships in accounting, finance, customer service, retail, or hospitality are beneficial.
