Northern Health is hiring a reliable and hardworking float team member for Bulkley Valley District Hospital in Smithers, British Columbia. The role combines responsibilities across environmental services, food service, and laundry operations, supporting safe, clean, and efficient hospital services.

Food Service Worker II

Working within Northern Health’s policies, food safety plan, and sanitation standards, this part of the role supports meal preparation and service for patients, residents, and staff. Duties include helping cooks by blending, grinding, slicing, preparing salads, vegetables, and sandwiches, as well as portioning desserts and combining food and beverage ingredients.

You will also assemble and portion patient trays and resident meals accurately, including therapeutic diet items aligned with nutrition care plans, and verify tray correctness before delivery. In addition, the position includes making items such as tea, coffee, and toast, washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, carrying out general cleaning, serving staff meals, and handling cash collection for purchased items, which may include ticket punching.

Laundry Worker II

In the laundry function, the role involves operating industrial laundry machinery such as washers, tunnel washers, extractors, and dryers in line with Northern Health policies and procedures. The position also includes coordinating and assigning work, along with identifying training and orientation needs for designated laundry staff.

Environmental Services Worker

The environmental services portion of the job focuses on maintaining safe, clean, and disinfected spaces throughout the facility. Areas of responsibility include patient, resident, and client rooms, operating rooms, diagnostic imaging and laboratory spaces, labour and delivery rooms, washrooms, corridors, hallways, lounges, offices, and other shared areas used by staff, visitors, and patients.

Pay and schedule

The posted pay rates are $25.82 for Cleaner & Food Services II and $26.80 for Laundry Worker II. The shift pattern is days from 07:00 to 13:00 on a rotating schedule.
