Role Overview
We seek a seasoned Director of Learning and Development to establish and oversee a premier learning function that enhances every stage of the employee lifecycle. This position centers on retail operations, collaborating closely with Retail Leadership to cultivate high-performance store teams while advancing critical learning initiatives within our corporate structure.
Key Responsibilities
- Devise and implement a comprehensive retail learning strategy covering all store locations.
- Create scalable onboarding programs tailored for Sales Associates, Visual Merchandisers, Supervisors, Assistant Store Managers, and Store Managers.
- Design leadership development pathways aimed at preparing high-potential employees for advancement.
- Work alongside Retail Operations to refine standard operating procedures, operational training, and execution benchmarks.
- Develop compelling learning resources that enhance conversion rates, product knowledge, styling techniques, customer experience, sales skills, and foster customer loyalty.
- Support training for new store openings, seasonal recruitment, and expansion projects.
- Ensure standardization of best practices across stores while allowing flexibility to meet specific business demands.
- Conduct in-store visits to evaluate learning effectiveness and uncover improvement opportunities.
- Design and lead leadership workshops for both emerging and established leaders.
- Enhance managerial capabilities in coaching, performance management, feedback delivery, accountability, and talent development.
- Formulate succession planning and internal mobility initiatives.
- Coordinate with HR Business Partners to tackle performance patterns through focused development efforts.
- Support onboarding and professional growth for corporate team members.
- Create learning experiences that promote cross-departmental collaboration and overall organizational efficiency.
- Collaborate with department heads to detect skill gaps and develop corresponding growth plans.
- Contribute to company-wide cultural, leadership, communication, and employee engagement campaigns.
- Innovate learning design through blended approaches including instructor-led sessions, eLearning, video content, microlearning, job aids, AI applications, and digital tools.
- Produce facilitator guides, participant materials, SOPs, playbooks, and other educational assets.
- Utilize AI technology to enhance content creation, learning design, and knowledge management.
- Maintain and update learning libraries ensuring alignment with strategic business goals.
- Partner strategically with Retail Leadership, Operations, HR, and Executive Leadership to synchronize learning actions with company growth and objectives.
- Evaluate training impact with KPIs, assessments, operational data, and business performance metrics.
- Report learning program insights and recommendations to senior management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, Education, or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in Learning and Development.
- At least 5 years leading learning programs within multi-unit retail environments.
- Background in supporting fast-expanding, high-volume retail brands.
- Strong skills in instructional design and facilitation.
- Proven ability to build leadership development programs from inception.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Highly organized with robust project management capabilities.
- Adaptable to fast-paced, entrepreneurial settings with dynamic priorities.
- Proficient in learning technologies including LMS platforms and AI-driven learning tools.
- Willing to travel frequently across North America for store visits.
