Job description
Role Overview
The Senior Charterer will be responsible for negotiating and executing shipping contracts within the bulk freight market. This individual will drive the growth and profitability of the freight and chartering functions, closely collaborating with the Assistant Manager, Shipping and Operations. The role requires management of freight demands from Sales and Planning departments, maintaining robust engagement with external clients, ship owners, and shipbrokers as necessary.
Responsibilities and Expectations
- Lead negotiation and execution of bulk shipping freight contracts.
- Coordinate freight and chartering activities to ensure sustainable growth and profitability.
- Collaborate effectively with sales and planning teams to meet freight requirements.
- Engage with external stakeholders such as clients, shipowners, and shipbrokers to facilitate successful contract management.
Professional Experience and Skills
- Possess a minimum of eight years’ relevant experience, with at least five years specializing in chartering at internationally recognized oil companies or reputable shipping firms.
- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of chartering and freight market dynamics, covering diverse contract types and regional markets.
- Utilize functional support teams efficiently and provide insightful commercial recommendations to stakeholders.
- Manage risk effectively by identifying opportunities and challenges within complex operational settings.
- Adapt and operate adeptly in non-standard environments, promoting gradual standardization and process optimization.
- Bring broad expertise across commercial, trading, risk management, finance, contract law, economic analysis, and project management disciplines.
- Exhibit exceptional negotiation, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders, facilitating impact-driven engagement.
- Exhibit sound decision-making abilities, operating in challenging situations with limited information.
Educational Background
Degree holders in Economics, Law, Business Administration, or related disciplines from reputable international universities will be preferred. Candidates with postgraduate studies such as MSc or MBA qualifications are highly desirable.
