Job description
Overview
The Senior Petrophysicist will lead and manage logging activities, including both open and cased hole logs, for offshore operations in the Idd El-Shargi field operated by QatarEnergy. This role requires developing cost-efficient, in-depth data acquisition strategies for ongoing drilling, workover, and reservoir monitoring programs. The candidate will deliver timely petrophysical analyses to support drilling completions and conduct detailed post-operation evaluations, providing interpretation reports to the reservoir management team. The position also involves regular contributions to the Idd El-Shargi studies group and providing petrophysical insights for integrated reservoir and field development modeling. Additionally, the role demands ensuring high-quality data delivery from service providers and active participation in a multidisciplinary reservoir management team.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise logging operations for offshore drilling activities.
- Develop and implement cost-effective data acquisition plans compatible with drilling and reservoir surveillance requirements.
- Deliver prompt petrophysical assessments to inform drilling completion strategies and detailed interpretation reports post-operation.
- Collaborate closely with reservoir management and studies teams, updating models and integrating petrophysical data with other subsurface information.
- Maintain and ensure high standards of data quality from service providers.
- Participate actively in an interdisciplinary reservoir management environment.
Required Skills and Experience
- At least 10 years of oil and gas industry experience, including 6 years combining petrophysical operations and studies focused on data acquisition, evaluation, and interpretation.
- Expertise in open-hole (wireline, MWD/LWD), cased-hole, and production logging tools, including image log assessment.
- Proficient in integrating petrophysical, geological, and dynamic data to improve reservoir characterization and reduce uncertainties during simulation.
- Strong ability to perform quality control on petrophysical data for both routine and complex analyses.
- Experience implementing new petrophysical technologies and methodologies to enhance field development and asset optimization.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills within multicultural teams and across organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Capability to enhance processes for data acquisition and interpretation using best industry practices and innovative approaches.
- Experience with capillary pressure (CCAL) and special core analysis (SCAL) methods.
- Background in integrated asset team settings.
- Familiarity with geostatistics and assisting geoscientists with 3D geological and property modeling (deterministic and stochastic).
- Knowledge of horizontal well technology and geo-steering techniques.
- Experience in carbonate reservoir evaluations.
- Experience applying statistical and pattern recognition methods such as neural networks, fuzzy logic, and multidimensional histograms.

Educational Credentials
A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geosciences, Applied Physics, Applied Electronics, or a related discipline is essential.
