About the Role
ELM Utility Services, a company with over 1900 employees nationwide, is hiring a Utility Locate Technician in Abilene, Texas. Technicians play a critical role in their communities by ensuring the reliability and maintenance of gas, electric, and communication infrastructure through precise utility marking to prevent damage during excavation. The advanced LaunchPoint software system is utilized to increase efficiency. Compensation ranges from $24.00 to $30.00 per hour, dependent on experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Confirming accuracy of previous markings for underground gas utilities with high profiles.
- Completing required documentation accurately.
- Maintaining communication with utility managers, crews, homeowners, and contractors regarding locate operations.
- Receiving daily assignments through computer or device.
- Organizing daily work by reviewing all locate requests to establish efficient routes.
- Interpreting utility-provided maps to identify underground utilities.
- Ensuring no damage or injury occurs as a result of mislocated utilities for clients and contractors.
- Overseeing active excavations near critical gas facilities to enforce safe practices.
- Inspecting gas installations that have been exposed to detect potential damage.
- Participating in on-call rotations and overtime, including nights and weekends as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Minimum of 90 days documented experience in gas locating.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is mandatory.
