Job description

Job Overview

The Kitchen Steward plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, hygiene, and organization of all kitchen and back-of-house areas. Reporting to the Kitchen Supervisor or Chef, this full-time position supports the kitchen team by maintaining clean utensils, cookware, equipment, and ensuring a sanitary working environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Wash and sanitize all crockery, cutlery, cookware, kitchen equipment, and workstations thoroughly, including operating dishwashing machinery as per guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, surfaces, drains, and storage areas with scheduled deep cleaning routines.
  • Manage kitchen waste efficiently by segregating and disposing of waste according to company protocols, while keeping garbage areas clean and covered.
  • Assist chefs and kitchen staff by preparing utensils, moving supplies, and arranging equipment to ensure smooth operations, especially during peak service times.
  • Handle kitchenware carefully to prevent breakage, immediately reporting any damaged or malfunctioning items.
  • Adhere to all hygiene, safety, and food safety standards including wearing prescribed uniforms and personal protective equipment.
  • Perform opening and closing duties such as prepping washing areas, ensuring supply availability, completing cleaning tasks post-service, and securing equipment.

Skills & Attributes

  • Basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long durations and handle lifting of kitchen items.
  • Ability to work efficiently under busy conditions and follow supervisor instructions.
  • Disciplined, punctual, hardworking, and cooperative with kitchen staff.
  • Willingness to work shifts including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum education: completion of Class VIII; Class X preferred.
  • Formal hospitality qualifications are not required.
  • Fresh graduates are welcome; prior experience as Kitchen Steward, Dishwasher, or similar roles in hospitality or food service settings is advantageous.

Performance Expectations

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Ensure promptness and quality in dishwashing and utensil availability.
  • Proper waste disposal and minimal damage to equipment.
  • Adherence to grooming, safety guidelines, and teamwork.

Additional Information

  • Employee may be assigned additional duties related to kitchen and restaurant operations as required.
