Job Overview
The Kitchen Steward plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, hygiene, and organization of all kitchen and back-of-house areas. Reporting to the Kitchen Supervisor or Chef, this full-time position supports the kitchen team by maintaining clean utensils, cookware, equipment, and ensuring a sanitary working environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Wash and sanitize all crockery, cutlery, cookware, kitchen equipment, and workstations thoroughly, including operating dishwashing machinery as per guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, surfaces, drains, and storage areas with scheduled deep cleaning routines.
- Manage kitchen waste efficiently by segregating and disposing of waste according to company protocols, while keeping garbage areas clean and covered.
- Assist chefs and kitchen staff by preparing utensils, moving supplies, and arranging equipment to ensure smooth operations, especially during peak service times.
- Handle kitchenware carefully to prevent breakage, immediately reporting any damaged or malfunctioning items.
- Adhere to all hygiene, safety, and food safety standards including wearing prescribed uniforms and personal protective equipment.
- Perform opening and closing duties such as prepping washing areas, ensuring supply availability, completing cleaning tasks post-service, and securing equipment.
Skills & Attributes
- Basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene and sanitation practices.
- Physical stamina to stand for long durations and handle lifting of kitchen items.
- Ability to work efficiently under busy conditions and follow supervisor instructions.
- Disciplined, punctual, hardworking, and cooperative with kitchen staff.
- Willingness to work shifts including weekends and holidays.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum education: completion of Class VIII; Class X preferred.
- Formal hospitality qualifications are not required.
- Fresh graduates are welcome; prior experience as Kitchen Steward, Dishwasher, or similar roles in hospitality or food service settings is advantageous.
Performance Expectations
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Ensure promptness and quality in dishwashing and utensil availability.
- Proper waste disposal and minimal damage to equipment.
- Adherence to grooming, safety guidelines, and teamwork.
