Job description
Role Overview
This position involves performing general cleaning tasks under the supervision of a Manager or designated person across various University facilities. The role supports maintaining cleanliness and hygiene to prescribed standards within and immediately surrounding assigned areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality cleaning services focusing on priority areas as used by occupants.
- Employ suitable cleaning methods, materials, and equipment for different surfaces and areas.
- Conduct comprehensive deep cleaning when required according to operational needs.
- Maintain necessary stocks of cleaning supplies orderly within storage spaces.
- Dispose of waste appropriately to support a safe and clean environment.
- Adhere strictly to legal and institutional policies regarding health and safety (including COSHH), data protection, and equal opportunity regulations.
- Ensure security measures are followed post-cleaning, such as closing windows and locking doors.
- Support the Manager during inspections and promptly report equipment malfunctions, hazards, or maintenance issues.
- Assist in fire evacuation procedures while on duty.
- Provide courteous responses to questions from staff and visitors.
- Participate in team meetings and complete all required training programs.
- Operate within any university building and be ready to cover evening shifts or additional hours as business demands evolve.
- Handle physical tasks demanding appropriate health and fitness, including moving furniture and lifting bed linen or cleaning tools.

Candidate Profile
- Previous experience in cleaning roles is essential.
- Good interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and deliver excellent customer service.
- Ability and willingness to develop basic IT capabilities, enabling access to the University’s digital systems for leave bookings and pay slips.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an organized manner.
- A flexible approach to work, eagerness to learn University-specific procedures within Campus Services, and capability to follow instructions consistently.
- Physical fitness to meet job demands involving carrying and lifting tasks.
- Basic proficiency in Welsh (oral and written at level A0) or an understanding of the institution's bilingual environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Training in First Aid, Manual Handling, COSHH compliance, and Health & Safety.
- Customer service certifications and experience within higher education sectors.
- Welsh language skills at a higher level (A1) are advantageous.
Working Hours and Contracts
- Various contract options available including up to 15, 20, 30 hours per week or full-time employment.
- Shift times potentially include early mornings 6-9am, mid-mornings to early afternoons 8.45am-2pm, or weekends subject to availability and discretion.
- Work locations include sites at Gogerddan and Llanbadarn.
Additional Information
- Applicants must be able to travel to assigned sites independently.
- The post is physically demanding and requires stamina.
- The University offers flexible working arrangements including part-time, job shares, and term-time only contracts.
- Applicants' information will be retained in a candidate bank for three months post-closure; reapplication is needed for consideration thereafter.
- This role is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship under the UK Skilled Worker Route.
