FluentU is an educational company established in 2011 that specializes in facilitating language learning through authentic video content such as movie trailers, music videos, news broadcasts, and motivational talks. Our platforms include a website, iOS app, and Android app, with our iOS application ranking among the top 20-50 grossing education apps. Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate Spanish Content Editor to produce engaging and educational Spanish language learning materials. This role involves collecting Spanish videos, transcribing and translating captions into English, annotating vocabulary with definitions and example sentences, and developing vocabulary flashcards and courses tailored for Spanish learners.
Responsibilities
- Source and curate Spanish language videos suitable for language learning.
- Transcribe captions and translate them from Spanish to English.
- Create word annotations by defining vocabulary and writing illustrative example sentences.
- Develop vocabulary flashcard sets and comprehensive Spanish language courses.
- Adapt to various digital communication and project management tools, including Asana and Slack.
- Collaborate with other editors to optimize the language learning content and services.
Working Environment
The position is fully remote with a team distributed worldwide. Communication is predominantly text-based, primarily through Asana, fostering a low-pressure and flat organizational structure that values clear and logical communication. Constructive and direct feedback is part of our culture.
Qualifications
- Genuine enthusiasm for language education and a belief in its transformative potential.
- Proficient knowledge of Spanish and English grammar and linguistic structures.
- Minimum one year of experience in Spanish education, translation, or linguistics, with an understanding of learner challenges and perspectives.
- Exceptional editing skills and keen attention to detail to ensure professional and accurate content delivery.
- Ability to effectively work remotely and coordinate with a geographically dispersed team.
- Strong self-motivation, responsibility, and productivity in a flexible work environment.
- Excellent written communication skills to maintain organized and clear exchanges.
- Ability to commit to 15-20 hours per week on a consistent, long-term basis.
Additional Information
Candidates will undergo a work simulation test reflective of actual FluentU tasks. The first 90 days constitute a trial period to ensure mutual compatibility, during which compensation is maintained as usual. Successful completion results in a continued engagement with FluentU.
