Job description
Role Overview
Join the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in a pivotal position where your work will directly influence New Zealand’s laws and labor standards. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to advise government ministers, shape legislative reforms, and impact employment relations across the country. Based in Wellington CBD, this permanent full-time position involves leading high-profile policy initiatives focusing on employment relations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice to Ministers on complex and visible policy matters.
- Contribute to shaping legislation and influential government priorities.
- Impact workplace regulations nationwide by working on issues like bargaining, workplace grievances, pay transparency, equity, and dispute resolution.
- Engage closely with senior leadership, regulators, and multiple stakeholders.
- Lead projects independently, overseeing their development through to successful implementation.
- Take on early responsibility with trust from day one, and mentor colleagues to enhance leadership capabilities.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience in central government policy roles.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to transform complex challenges into effective policy solutions.
- Confident communication skills, both written and verbal, with an aptitude for engaging senior officials and diverse groups.
- Demonstrated curiosity, sound judgment, and proactive initiative.
Desirable Additional Qualifications
- Experience with regulatory policy frameworks.
- Legal education or background.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi's application within public policy.
- Familiarity with economic policies relevant to New Zealand's context.
- Experience in leading work programs or providing coaching to team members.

Compensation and Benefits
