Job description
Job Overview
This role is centered on managing all operational aspects related to machinery including setup, running, cleaning, and suggesting operational enhancements. The position serves as a team leadership role reporting directly to the Plant Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and direct team members ensuring compliance with plant safety regulations.
- Conduct daily inspections of the machine area before operation.
- Communicate training needs, team issues, and mechanical problems to management promptly.
- Complete and submit all required documents daily.
- Adhere to machine scheduling and alert management about potential problems.
- Oversee machine setup using proper techniques to maximize efficiency.
- Perform quality checks to meet plant quality standards and report concerns immediately.
- Operate machinery safely minimizing downtime and waste, while documenting causes and communicating them.
- Execute preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled.
- Cross-train on different machines to ensure operational flexibility.
- Accurately complete reports involving production data, machine status, safety, and quality metrics.
- Initiate maintenance work orders and proactively assist in equipment upkeep.
- Coordinate with Assistant Operator for duty swaps to aid training efforts.
- Report any food packaging safety hazards to relevant management personnel.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Mathematical and Reasoning Skills
Must be able to measure quickly and accurately using a tape measure and perform calculations involving percentages, volume, measurements, and rates. Should be capable of applying high school level math concepts. Requires practical reasoning skills to follow various forms of instructions and solve standardized situational problems.
Technical Knowledge
- Understands equipment design and operational capabilities.
- Familiar with product layouts, production and quality specifications.
- Knowledgeable about quality standards and basic computer applications.
Physical Requirements
The role demands regular standing, walking, hearing, use of hands and fingers, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and occasional sitting. Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds and have strong vision abilities including focus adjustment and color perception.
Work Environment
Work is frequently performed near moving mechanical parts with exposure to humid or wet conditions. Occasionally, work may involve heights, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration. The environment is typically noisy.
